Two days ago, I took MS-700: Managing Microsoft Teams exam and passed with a good score. With this blog post, I would like to share my experience, provide some study resources and give some tips to hopefully show the direction to what to focus on when studying for this exam.

If you have been dealing with Microsoft Teams you can pass with a bit of additional study. For my case, I have been managing Microsoft Teams for a while and with a couple of days of light study, I was able to pass with a high score. However please keep in mind that everyone may learn at a different pace and how much you need to study is related to how much you already know.

As you already might know, Microsoft exams require a minimum score of 700 to pass. This exam is giving you 180 minutes for around 40 questions. (Number of questions might change.) I had two case studies and each case study included 4 questions. The first case study was at the beginning of the exam and the second was at the very end.

Following resources good for studying to this exam:

Following topics are included in the exam, and I am providing below my notes and exam tips based on my experience for each section.

Plan and Configure a Microsoft Teams Environment (45–50%)

Upgrade from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams

  • choose an appropriate upgrade path and coexistence mode to meet specific requirements
  • plan and troubleshoot meeting migration
  • configure Microsoft Teams upgrade notification and meeting app choices
  • configure coexistence mode for the organization and per-user

Exam tip: It is important to know all the coexistence modes and how to set them up for the entire organization and a single user. Following pages are good for studying the topics.

  • calculate network bandwidth capacity for Microsoft Teams voice, video, meetings and live events
  • assess network readiness by using the Network Testing Companion
  • configure network ports and protocols used by Microsoft Teams client application
  • configure media optimizations by using QoS

Exam tip: You should familiarize yourself to Network Planner within Teams Administration Center. I downloaded and tested Network Companion in order to know what is it used for. It is important to know which ports needed for Microsoft Teams (audio/video).

Implement Governance and Lifecycle Management for Microsoft Teams

  • create team templates
  • set up policies for Office 365 Groups creation

Exam tip: If you would like to deploy Microsoft Teams for your entire organization, how can you do it?

  • manage configuration profiles

Exam tip: If you would like to dynamically add people to a certain Team, how can you accomplish that?

  • manage access review for team members

Implement policies for Microsoft Teams apps

  • create and manage app permission policies
  • create and manage app setup policies

Exam tip: It is very important to understand app permission policies and app setup policies. Also, it is important to understand how a specific policy can override a global policy.

Best way to learn is by doing. Reading, taking notes, watching videos will take you to some point. However, nothing matches with actually configuring all those bullet points above to maximize your retention. That is why I recommend spinning up a demo tenant and playing around while learning.
